Developed by Old Skull Games and published by Gameloft, this title transforms. Basically, it’s what happens when someone decides Mario Tennis needs more clay. You see SpongeBob, Aang, and a whole cast of Nickelodeon characters face off on the court, and honestly, the game does a better job than it deserves. It started out as a mobile game on Apple Arcade a few years ago, but this Switch version has been rebuilt from the ground up with proper controls and local co-op.
There are 15 characters to choose from, including SpongeBob, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and a few other classic cartoons. Each has a different playstyle and a special move that can turn the game around in a few hits, so matchups really matter, rather than all the characters looking the same with different skins.
If you want to customize your character, there’s a wide selection of over 500 outfits and accessories to mix and match, so your SpongeBob won’t be the same as everyone else’s.
You can play the story mode solo, at your own pace, or grab a second controller for local 1v1 split-screen matches — no internet required, just sit down and play together, like in the old days. And it doesn’t matter if you’ve never played a game of tennis before. The controls are so simple that anyone can start having fun in minutes.
