Nintendo Switch ROMs (NSP / XCI / NSZ) can be played on a modded Switch with custom firmware, or on PC using Switch emulators. Below is a simple overview.

Yuzu Emulator (PC)

Yuzu was a popular open-source Nintendo Switch emulator for Windows, Linux and Android. It could run many Switch ROMs in NSP or XCI format with good performance on mid-to-high PC hardware. Always use a legal dump of games you own when testing emulators.

Ryujinx Emulator (PC)

Ryujinx is another well-known Switch emulator focused on accuracy and compatibility. It supports NSP and XCI files, save states, and controller mapping. A strong CPU helps for smooth gameplay.

Sudachi / Forks

Community forks based on older emulator projects continue Switch emulation on PC and Android. Features vary by build — check firmware keys, GPU drivers, and game-specific settings if a title does not boot.

Modded Nintendo Switch (CFW)

On a Switch with Atmosphere CFW, install NSP or XCI files using Tinfoil, DBI, or Goldleaf. Keep firmware and Atmosphere updated so newer Switch ROMs install correctly.

Switch ROM Formats Explained

  • NSP — Standard Nintendo Switch Package. Best for installing on CFW Switch.
  • XCI — Cartridge dump format. Works on many emulators and some installers.
  • NSZ / XCZ — Compressed NSP/XCI. Smaller download size; decompress or install with a compatible tool.
  • DLC & Updates — Extra content and patches. Install after the base Switch ROM.
